Aitken, D.; Burkinshaw, S. M.; Cox, R.; Catherall, J.; Price, D. M.; The effect of benzyl alcohol on the glass transition temperature and dyeing behaviour of wet Courtelle S. Journal of Applied Polymer Science: Applied Polymer Symposium 47 (1991) 271-280
The effect of benzyl alcohol carrier on the glass transition temperature (Tg) of wet acrylic filament was examined using dynamic mechanical analysis. The presence of benzyl alcohol reduced the Tg of wet acrylic fibre by up to 29°C, thus demonstrating the plasticising action of the carrier with respect to this polymer. The increase in dye uptake with carrier concentration was also proportional to the reduction in Tg.
